Find answers to common questions about UniExchange
UniExchange is a marketplace app designed specifically for university students to buy, sell, and trade items on campus. Our platform makes it easy to find affordable textbooks, furniture, electronics, and more from fellow students at your university.
UniExchange currently supports 5 universities across the United States. We're constantly expanding to new campuses. If your university isn't currently supported, you can request it through the app, and we'll prioritize adding it based on demand.
Yes! UniExchange is completely free to download and use. We don't charge any fees for listing items or making transactions. Our goal is to create an accessible platform that helps students save money.
To create an account, download the UniExchange app from the App Store, tap "Sign Up," and follow the prompts. You'll need to use your university email address to verify your student status.
We require university email verification to ensure that our marketplace is exclusively for students. This creates a safer, more trusted community and helps maintain the campus-focused nature of our platform.
Your account will remain active for a grace period after graduation, allowing you to sell items before you leave campus. However, as UniExchange is designed specifically for current students, you will be moved to an off-campus marketplace.
You can search for items using the search bar at the top of the Marketplace screen. Filter results by category, price range, and location on campus to find exactly what you're looking for.
When you find an item you're interested in, tap the "Message Seller" button on the listing. This will open a chat where you can discuss details, ask questions, and arrange a meeting place for the exchange.
UniExchange is designed for in-person exchanges. Payments are handled directly between buyers and sellers, typically using cash or payment apps like Venmo or Cash App. We recommend only paying when you receive the item.
Tap the "+" button at the bottom of the app, then select "Create Listing." Take photos of your item, add a title, description, price, and category. Once you submit, your listing will be visible to other students at your university.
You can sell most items that other students might need, including textbooks, furniture, electronics, clothing, and dorm essentials. However, we prohibit the sale of illegal items, alcohol, drugs, weapons, and certain other restricted categories. Please review our Community Guidelines for a complete list.
We recommend pricing items at 40-60% of their original retail price, depending on condition and demand. For textbooks, check what they're selling for online and offer a competitive price. Remember that buyers can negotiate, so you may want to set your initial price slightly higher than your minimum acceptable amount.
We verify all users through their university email addresses, creating a trusted community of students. We also have a rating system so you can see feedback from previous transactions. Additionally, we provide safety guidelines for in-person meetings and have a reporting system for any issues.
Always meet in public, well-lit areas on campus during daylight hours when possible. Many universities have designated exchange zones that are monitored by campus security. Common meeting spots include libraries, student unions, and dining halls.
If you encounter any issues with a transaction, first try to resolve it directly with the other party. If that doesn't work, you can report the issue through the app by going to the listing or chat and selecting "Report a Problem." Our support team will review the situation and help find a resolution.
